Don’t Match – Coordinate Instead!

Living room with yellow chair and green couchIt used to be chic to purchase a set of matching furniture pieces for a room.  However, matching furniture sets now tend to make a room feel and look dated.  If you choose pieces that you like and that work well together (style, wood tone, color etc.) then you create a room that is stylish but unique.  Remember pieces should fit the size of the room, – neither too big nor too small.  If you currently have a matching set of furniture in, say, your living room or family room, gradually replace 1 or 2 of the pieces. For example, keep the sofa but replace the loveseat with a pair of coordinating chairs; or keep the end tables but replace the coffee table.  It’s easier to accept several small changes than to completely mix things up all at once.  Finally, don’t forget the accessories.  If you are changing furniture pieces, you may also need to update a couple of the accessories in the room.
