Placing a large mirror on a wall – preferably a wall at right angles to a window- makes the room appear larger and also brings in more natural light. Hanging window treatments as high up above the window frame as you can go adds visual height to the room. Choosing furniture pieces that sit up off the floor or are made of materials that you can see through gives a lighter “feel” to the room. If possible, choose smaller scaled furniture pieces – for example, a loveseat and ottoman provides as much seating as a sofa but takes up less visual space. Use mostly light or neutral colors in the room but introduce pops of color in your accessories for interest. Keeping the room neat and uncluttered also makes it appear bigger.
